Tree Guard Removal Thursday 28th May 19.00-21.00
In addition to the usual places that we go to, Trees for Wimborne have added a couple of work evenings on another site between Wimborne and Sturminster Marshall: this is an area of farmland on the Stour Valley Way where the farmer has planted a woodland on their less productive land. The tree guards that were used to protect the trees from the deer are now causing more damage than preventing it. The farmer has been kind enough over the last year to allow us to take the undamaged guards and cable ties, for our use. This has proved a saviour on Dogdean and other sites. It is a lovely place and now much in need of attention, of which we have and will benefit. As an added bonus some of us might, at the end of the evening, enjoy the beer garden at the Coventry Arms while heading back towards Wimborne. For more information please click below.
Dogdean SANG 10th June 18.30-20.30
Trees for Wimborne have planted a good number of trees over the last 4 years, including planting a new site last winter. We have also taken out the old spirals from the surrounding hedge which now looks so much better for it.
The trees have suffered from deer predation in the past which we hope we have sorted out by putting in more tree guards and using a deer repellent spray.
But there is always work to do here in summer, checking spirals/ tree guards and their supporting stakes and making sure that the vegetation is not affecting the tree growth.
Meet on the SANG near to the end of Bellflower Road- which is near to the play area. For more information please click below.
Stourview SANG 14th July 18.30-20.30
Trees for Wimborne will be looking to see how the trees are doing and giving them a bit of TLC – no doubt removing some competing vegetation and adjusting spirals.
Just maybe we will have time to see how our Black Poplars are doing.
Meet near the Recycling Depot end of the SANG
